Insurance Condition and Valuation Survey
Insurance Companies require a C & V survey once a boat is 10 to 15 years old, and every 3 to 5 years thereafter, depending upon the policy of the specific company.
This survey is used by Underwriters to assess the vessel's risk prior to providing coverage. The inspection is similar to the Pre-Purchase inspection, with particular emphasis put on the structural condition of the vessel, as well as on safety items.
The inspection can often be carried out while the vessel is afloat, with a bottom inspection arranged during regular haul-out times if required by your insurance company.
